Why it caught on: the picture is a press photo of a very young Chinese boy holding a toy phone to his ear, mouth wide open mid-call. Captioners turned it into the all-purpose phone-in-an-order face, mostly with pizza and fast food. Much of the early humour leaned on a mock accent and on jokes about the child's size, which is the stereotype the meme was built on. It has lasted because the face suits any call where you are asking for far too much, with total confidence.
