By the fourth one, you are typing in capitals and have to be talked down by your own deputy. You open a cinnamon roll from the bakery section that cost £3.50. It's dry, the icing is a thin film of sugar, and it has the structure of a roof tile. You stand at the counter, holding it, in a mood. **Why it caught on:** the picture is SpongeBob SquarePants, the yellow sea sponge from Nickelodeon's cartoon, caught mid-shout with a furious face and a raised fist. People captioned it with orders barked at someone else, such as "you will vote up this" or "you are going to read this meme". It spread because the shouting is so total and so out of proportion that it fits any small grievance, and the format of an absurd command in capitals is easy to copy.
