Your manager announces "unlimited holiday". Three months later you have taken four days, and one of them was a funeral. Nobody has said no, which turns out to be how the policy works.

A colleague says the meeting was "literally a nightmare" and "literally killed" her. You were in it. It was a slide deck about invoice formats.

Someone at the pub calls a minor disagreement "gaslighting", then says the weather is "triggering" them. You nod slowly, finish your drink and decide it's not your round to argue.

Why it caught on: the line comes from the film The Princess Bride (1987), where the swordsman Inigo Montoya says it to the villain Vizzini, who keeps shouting "Inconceivable!" at things that are plainly happening. The picture of Inigo, calm and faintly amused, was captioned with the misused word in quotation marks, and it spread because it fits any word, from "love" to "peaceful", and the person misusing it never takes the hint.
