Why it caught on: the picture is a still of an old, white-bearded king laughing on his throne in a fantasy film, and it is the laugh that carried it. The caption is a riff on Gandalf's line to the Witch-king in *The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King*, "You have no power here", so people borrowed the phrase and put the laugh behind it. It spread because the template fits almost anything: pupils meeting teachers in public, children who have grown up, or breath mints taking on a bad smell all get the same dismissive cackle.
