Why it caught on: the picture is a still from the 2019 film *Joker*, showing Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker dancing down a flight of outdoor stairs in the Bronx, in a red suit and yellow waistcoat. The scene became a meme almost at once, and the stairs turned into a tourist stop. People captioned it with a fake film title and year, as if a sequel were on its way, which is why the best posts read like poster text: *Joker: Folie à Deux*, *Snow Joker*, *Joker 3*. It spread because it fits any dull moment that feels like a grand cinematic exit, and because a title card needs only a few words.
