Why it caught on: the picture shows a young man with a patterned bandana and a heavy chain, head tilted to one side, with the words "San Juan Cholo" printed across the bottom. Who he is and where the photo came from isn't clear, but people captioned it with Spanish-language Mexican slang, bad-English jokes and the tilted-head pose, usually finished with "no se quiera pasar". "Cholo" is a label that has long been used as a stereotype for a Latino street style, and the captions mostly turn it into a character who is cocky, a bit lazy and quite proud of it.
