Someone at the airport is arguing with the gate agent about a bag that was obviously too big. You are three places back, holding a boarding pass and a sandwich, and you quietly pity them.
A group chat spends forty minutes planning a "quick" get-together. One person says they might come. Then they say it again. Then they are in charge of the playlist.
The meeting could have been an email, and the email could have been a sentence. Someone is still reading the slides out loud, and you have never been so sure of anything.
A colleague gets a gym membership in January, announces a new life in a group message, and posts one photo of a protein shake. By March the membership is a rumour. You say nothing. You just know.
Why it caught on: the picture shows Mr T, the American actor and former bodyguard (born Laurence Tureaud), known for his mohawk and heavy gold chains. He played Clubber Lang in *Rocky III* in 1982, where he said "I pity the fool", and B.A. Baracus in *The A-Team*. Image macros paired his stern pointing with that line and with gruff, motivational orders. It spread because the same glare works as a threat, a pep talk or a verdict on whatever annoyed you today.
