Why it caught on: Madea is a character created and played by Tyler Perry, a loud, no-nonsense grandmother who first appeared in his stage plays and went on to star in a long run of films. A still of her with a handgun became a template for calm, grandmotherly threats, usually "say it one more time". It spread because everyone has a small, repeatable irritation that deserves a warning, and the picture delivers it better than words.
