People captioned it as a father showing his son something worth noticing, and the usual punchline was a crude or prejudiced "lesson", often using slurs. The joke was meant to mock the bigoted parent handing their prejudice down to the next generation, not the people named in the captions, and the format spread because every family has a relative who treats a walk as a lecture.
