A colleague announces the project is "literally on fire" in the stand-up. It is not on fire. It is two days late, which is a different kind of problem and does not need a fire extinguisher.
Someone online calls a mildly annoying neighbour "toxic", the council "fascist" and their lunch "a crime". By Friday nobody is sure what any of those words were for, least of all the person using them.
The manager says the new process will be "agile". It involves a form, a second form and a meeting to discuss the forms. You nod and keep your face very still.
Your mate says a film is "ironic" because it's raining on his wedding day. You open your mouth. You close it. It's a long evening and there is still pudding.
Why it caught on: the picture shows Inigo Montoya, the Spanish swordsman played by Mandy Patinkin in *The Princess Bride* (1987). In the film he says the line to Vizzini, who keeps shouting "Inconceivable!" at everything that goes wrong. It is easy to reuse: any time someone leans on a big word and gets it wrong, the line fits, and the knowing smirk is already there for you.
