Why it caught on: the picture is a crude black-and-white line drawing of a wide-eyed, open-mouthed face with a lolling tongue, the kind of rage-comic character drawn in a basic paint program. It was used for the "genius" moment, a cheerful, confident idea that falls apart the second you look at it properly, and captioned with deliberately flawed logic: a round world promised to be perfect, sky structures nobody can reach. It spread because bad ideas delivered with total confidence are easy to recognise, and easier to write.
