Why it caught on: the picture shows Dwight Schrute, the humourless, rule-loving paper salesman played by Rainn Wilson in the American version of *The Office*. People used it for the "False." format, where a confident claim is posted and then corrected flatly underneath, in the manner of Dwight shutting down a colleague's idea. It spread because everyone knows someone who would rather be right than be liked.
