Someone offers a line so innocent it takes you a full second to realise it was a jab all along. You laugh a beat late, which is exactly what they wanted.

Why it caught on: the picture shows a woman with long blonde hair and wide eyes, mouth open, thumb jerked over her shoulder in front of a bright rainbow burst. People used it for a two-line format: a bit of apparent daftness on top and a sharper, darker or more knowing twist underneath. The stereotype behind the name was that blonde women are unintelligent, and many of the best posts turned that around by making the "dim" speaker the one telling the joke.
