Why it caught on: the meme is named after Drake, whose first big role was Jimmy Brooks in the Canadian teen drama *Degrassi: The Next Generation*, a character who used a wheelchair after a school shooting storyline in the mid-2000s. Years later, as his rap career took off, fans began rewriting his lyrics as wheelchair puns over stills from the show. The format spread because the lyrics were instantly recognisable, a single swapped word was enough for a joke, and the gap between the teen-drama past and the superstar present did the rest.
