A friend finds a photo of you at a wedding from four years ago, mid-dance, eyes closed, one arm in the air. It goes into the group chat. You reply with a single calm thumbs up, as if you planned it.

You wave a tennis ball about during the walk, pretending to throw it. He watches you, unmoved, and then looks at your hand. He knew. He has always known.

Why it caught on: the picture shows a black and tan Shiba Inu-type dog leaning on a wooden board, collar on, with a lazy, knowing half-smile. It was captioned as an advice-animal image, with the setup line starting "I don't always..." and a punchline in the style of the "most interesting man" ads. It spread because the face suits any caption: smug, relaxed and quietly ahead of you.
