Hey baby / You wanna do it
A Beavis and butthead post.
Two mates on the sofa, one dodgy joke, and a laugh that goes on a good ten seconds longer than the joke deserved. Nobody else in the room finds it funny. That has never once stopped you. Someone says a word that sounds faintly rude. Nobody in the meeting reacts, but you and one colleague make eye contact across the table and both look straight down at your notebooks, shoulders going. You get dragged into a political argument at a family do. Somebody's uncle is certain about everything. You and your cousin sit at the far end of the table, repeating his best lines under your breath and trying not to snort into the trifle. Your mate starts a plan, "let's go and climb that", and the plan is bad. Nobody says so. Twenty minutes later you're both at the bottom of a wall, committed. **Why it caught on:** the picture shows Beavis and Butt-Head, the two teenage slackers created by Mike Judge for MTV in the 1990s, whose snickering "huh huh" laugh and dim, gleeful commentary made them famous. The images were easy to caption, since the pair react to everything with the same two-note enthusiasm, and in the 2010s the format was used for blunt political jokes, with the duo cheering on whatever scandal was in the news. The stereotype behind the characters was the dim, giggling teenage boy who finds everything either rude or brilliant.
