A Left Exit 12 Off Ramp post.
The Anki app has been pinging you since morning. Eight hundred cards are due, the number now a lifestyle rather than a reminder. You open it, look at the pile, and close it again with great dignity. Run club is at 6, and you said yes in a moment of optimism on Sunday. Your trainers are by the door. Your phone is in your hand. You are somehow already in your pyjamas. You told yourself this week would be different: flashcards at breakfast, a gentle jog after work, a balanced and measured life. By Wednesday you have done neither, but you have rearranged your desk and made a very good playlist for both. At 5.45 you finally commit. You lace up, step out and feel splendid. By 6.10 you are on the sofa, the cards are still waiting, and the group chat says "great run everyone". **Why it caught on:** the picture is a highway sign showing the Left Exit 12 lane, with a car below it swerving across to take a sharp exit at the last second. The image circulated in 2017 and was widely captioned as a choice between a sensible option and a tempting one, with the car always veering towards the tempting one. It spread because everyone has felt the pull of the worse choice and the speed of the swerve, and the template needs only two labels to work.
