You book a week in Cornwall and buy new sunglasses for it. It rains every day. You wear the sunglasses once, indoors, as a joke. Brand-new phone. Out of the box for forty minutes. Face down on the car park tarmac. Seven weeks on the waiting list for the restaurant. You arrive dressed up. There's a note on the door about a burst pipe. Every winter the team looks quick in testing and you say "this is the year". By March it is, once again, not the year. **Why it caught on:** Charles Leclerc's Ferrari years kept promising and then breaking down - at Monaco in 2021 he took pole and couldn't even start the race - and fans made him the face of hope ending in the gravel. He finally won at home in 2024.
