"This won't hurt a bit," says the dentist, with a cheerful wink, holding something that is clearly going to hurt a lot of bits. **Why it caught on:** it's the "Buddy Christ" statue from Kevin Smith's Dogma (1999), unveiled by Cardinal Glick for the church's "Catholicism Wow!" campaign to make the faith friendlier. A holy figure acting like your cheerful mate is very hard not to caption.
