THEY SUGGEST ME TO PLAY POKEMON GO
A Disaster Girl post.
Disaster Girl is Zoë Roth, then four, photographed in 2004 by her father in Mebane, North Carolina, smiling at the camera while a house burns behind her. The fire was a controlled training burn by the local fire department; nobody was hurt. She was just a kid watching firefighters, and it shows. But the smile, and the timing, tell a different story. Captions cast her as the calm mastermind behind every disaster. Top line: the catastrophe. Bottom line: her quiet satisfaction. "Burnt the toast - worth it." "The group chat exploded - all according to plan." "You said 'reply all'? Perfect." Zoë has a good sense of humor about it. In 2021 she sold the original photo as an NFT, which is the kind of plan her meme self would approve of. **Why it caught on:** a sweet smile in front of chaos is the funniest possible contrast.
