mcdonalds / "1oo percent pure meat"
A Dr. Evil Air Quotes post.
Your doctor says you've been "resting" for a week. Your boss says you've been "working from home" for three. Your bank statement says you've been "investing" since Tuesday. Everyone is being very sincere about it. The email from the landlord promises "a small adjustment to the rent". The delivery app says your order is "on its way", and has said so for fifty minutes. The word is carrying more than it can hold. Your mate is "just popping out for one". Your brother is "only borrowing" your charger. Your flatmate has "tidied up", which means every object you own is now in a single drawer, and you can't find the scissors. Dad has "no idea" how the telly got set to Swedish. Your nan has been "keeping an eye on" the neighbour's house since 1994. Somebody, somewhere, is "totally fine". Nobody believes it, and the fingers keep moving. **Why it caught on:** the picture is Dr. Evil, the bald villain in the grey tunic played by Mike Myers in the Austin Powers films, raising both hands to make quotation marks in the air. Fans captioned it with a word or phrase in quotes to show that it isn't quite true, and it fitted anything from "working" to "pain meds". It spread because it is the quickest way to say that a word is doing a lot of lying.
