The Christmas lights went into the box neatly folded in January. In December you pull out one solid knot the size of a football. You spend forty minutes on it, then use the old ones from the garage. Someone in the group chat sends a political take before breakfast. By lunch there are 63 replies and two people have left. Your uncle is typing again. The chat was meant for deciding who brings the crisps. You say "it's just a classic meme" to a room of people who have never heard of it. Nobody laughs. Someone asks if it's from TikTok. You feel older than you did at breakfast. **Why it caught on:** the picture is a rage comic face, a crudely drawn, wide-eyed, snarling head on a tiny body, from the family of hand-drawn rage comics that grew up on 4chan and Reddit around 2010. People captioned it with a complaint in the form "Y U NO" followed by whatever was annoying them, usually in capital letters and deliberately broken grammar. It spread because anyone could fill in the blank in seconds, and the question was always one nobody could actually answer.
