You've heard this in January, in April and the week after his birthday. You say "brilliant" and mean something else entirely. Somebody on the group chat sends a "fun fact" that has been wrong since 2014. Three people react with a thumbs up. You type a reply, delete it, type it again, and send a single "wow, really". A man at the pub tells you the film was much better before everyone started liking it. You ask which bit he liked best. He pauses a bit too long, and that's your whole evening sorted. **Why it caught on:** the picture is an edited version of the Wonka image from the 1971 film *Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory*, with the purple velvet coat, brown top hat and big bow tie, here worn by a different, laughing face (the name hints at Yao Ming). The original Wonka smirk became the Condescending Wonka meme around 2011, and since the costume works with any face and any smug sentence, people swapped in new faces and captions, from tough talk to football chants to sweet shop jokes.
