I'LL JUST WAIT FOR MY GIRLFRIEND TO GET READY
A Waiting For post.
Your download finishes at 99% and then sits there. You refresh the page, you check the cable, you make a tea. The bar has not moved, and you have started to feel that it is personal. The shop says your parcel is "out for delivery" at 7 in the morning. It is now ten at night. You have checked the tracking page forty times, and the driver is apparently still "nearby". You send a message to the group chat asking who's coming on Saturday. Three people reply with "maybe" and one with a thumbs up that means nothing. By Friday evening you are still staring at the screen. The loading wheel spins on the one document you need before the meeting. The meeting starts. The wheel carries on. Somewhere around the second agenda item you start to wonder who gets there first. **Why it caught on:** the picture is two stills from a film scene: a man sitting at a computer in the top frame, and a withered, long-haired skeleton in the same pose in the bottom one, as if he never left. The original film is unknown, but the template was captioned with a task on top and "still waiting" below. It spread because it fits any wait, from a slow computer to a game's patch notes, and the punchline is always the same: the wait won.
