A Advice Dog post.
A smiling puppy's head on a rainbow colour wheel. It's the original advice animal, from around 2006, and it set the template for the whole family: a character in the middle of a coloured wheel, giving advice in a top and bottom line. The top line sets up the advice. The bottom line delivers it, and it can be friendly, useless or wildly irresponsible. "Can't sleep?" / "Just stay awake, problem solved." "Spilled your drink?" / "Now you have a reason to get a new one." "Feeling sad?" / "Pet a dog. Not me. Another dog." Early posts leaned towards terrible advice delivered with total confidence. Courage Wolf, Insanity Wolf, Socially Awkward Penguin and the rest are its descendants. Advice Dog doesn't seem bothered by being outdone by his kids. He just keeps smiling, like a grandparent at a family reunion who has no idea what anyone is talking about. **Why it caught on:** it invented a format so simple that thousands of memes are still built on it.
