While running a 3rd degree burn under cold water is not recommended, 1st and 2nd degree burns are readily treated with cool (not cold) water, as long as the size of the burn is small and it's not located on a sensitive portion of the body (head/face, groin, buttocks, or major joint). / If the burned area is larger than 3" in diameter, cover with sterile gauze and seek medical attention. Smaller than that, cool the burn with water, apply sterile gauze to protect the burn site, and take an over-the-counter NSAID pain reliever.
A apply cold water to burn post.
