A Goddamn Batman post.
Your coworker asks if you can "just quickly" take a look at something. Forty minutes later you're still on the call, speaking in a low, gravelly voice nobody asked for, and you have taken on the entire project. Someone at the office says the printer is broken again. You get up, in a manner, and walk over. Nobody thanked you last time either. You fix the paper jam and leave without a word. You answer "I'm fine" in a tone that has been practised in the mirror. Your friend asks if you're sure. You are not sure. You say "it's fine" in the same voice, only deeper. The group chat asks who is bringing the snacks, who is booking the table, who is sorting the lift home. A long pause. You type "I'll do it" with the grim energy of a man who has already done it three times. **Why it caught on:** the picture is a close-up of Batman in his cowl, eyes wide and teeth bared in a strained grimace, apparently from one of the 1990s Batman films, though which actor or scene it is isn't something to state with confidence. People captioned it with a gruff voice and an overwrought sense of duty, from "I'm the goddamn Batman" to jokes about suits and parents. It spread because anyone can use it for the moment they take things far too seriously, and it works as a growl.
