A Hipster Kitty post.
A kitten in a lavender hoodie and thick-framed glasses. It started as an acrylic painting called "Allison" by Portland artist Craig Wheat, posted to Flickr in early 2009; the first captioned versions appeared later that year. Hipster Kitty liked everything before it was cool. Mostly so it could stop liking it once you started. The top line names a thing. The bottom line explains, with weary superiority, that the kitten got there first, or that it only likes it ironically. "I liked Twilight / when it was still the refraction of light in the atmosphere." "My favourite song? / The hidden bonus track at 58:12." "I burnt my mouth on my pizza / ate it before it was cool." There is a quiet joke in the joke: a cat is the original hipster. Wears a hoodie indoors, judges your music, refuses to do anything you ask, and already knew about that cardboard box before it went mainstream. **Why it caught on:** everyone has known someone who heard the band first, and everyone has secretly been that person.
