A Willy Wonka post.
Condescending Wonka uses a still of Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka in the 1971 film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, leaning on his hand with a smug, mocking half-smile. Wilder's Wonka always seemed to know something you didn't, and to find it mildly amusing that you didn't. The top line repeats someone's naive claim in fake amazement; the bottom line twists the knife. "Oh, you just graduated? You must know everything." "You read one article? Tell me more about vaccines." "You're on a diet? Please, describe it in detail." It's sarcasm with good manners. Wonka never raises his voice. He just leans in, smiles, and lets you hear how it sounded. A good Condescending Wonka feels like being patted on the head by someone who isn't on your side. **Why it caught on:** it's the perfect polite reply to the person who has it all figured out.
