He has been to the gym twice. He has bought gloves, a belt, a shaker, three tubs of protein and a headband. The headband is doing most of the work. Day one. He posts a mirror selfie, a photo of his shake and a quote about discipline over a sunset. He trained for fourteen minutes. There is one bench in the weight room. He sits on it for twenty minutes, scrolling, between sets of very small curls. A queue forms. He drinks some water. Your colleague joined a gym a week ago and now has opinions. He watched a video once and tells you your posture is "killing your gains" while eating a doughnut at his desk. **Why it caught on:** a stock photo of a skinny young man in a headband and red track pants, sitting on a weight bench, became the face of every January arrival, and every gym regular has been him at least once.
