A First World Problems post.
First World Problems is a stock photo of a woman crying with her hand over her face. The phrase is older than the meme; around 2011 this picture became its face. She looks as if she has just received terrible news. In the meme, the news is that her phone is at 12 percent. The top line states a comfortable situation, the bottom line the tragedy. "Ordered a large pizza... it doesn't fit in the fridge." "The Wi-Fi doesn't reach the bathroom." "Too many shows to watch, spent the evening choosing." The format's whole skill is self-awareness: the person posting it knows exactly how small the problem is, and complains anyway. In 2012 a charity ad had people in Haiti read these complaints out loud, which was a fairly effective way of ending the conversation. **Why it caught on:** it lets you complain and laugh at yourself for complaining, all in one picture.
